Soho, London

2003

This loft space had a single facade with views to the street; all other windows face onto an overlooked light well. To create a large flexible living space, the master bedroom needed to be placed alongside the light well. The bathroom is placed in the centre of the space and is arranged to maintain views from the bedroom over the large stone bath to the street beyond. Above the bath are moveable screens to create privacy when required. A linear kitchen responds to the strong horizontal forms of the existing ceiling beams, while a separate transformable study/guest bedroom can be made en suite to the cloakroom/shower room or be turned into a free-standing box.
