The existing top-floor maisonette in this elegant five-storey Victorian terrace house had a confused layout. The rearrangement of the space places the bedrooms and bathrooms on the lower floor and opens up the entire volume of the upper floor as a reception, dining, kitchen and study area. The sloping mansard walls of the upper floor are concealed behind new vertical storage that also conceals built-in shutters and sliding panels. An all-glass structural staircase links the sitting area to the study gallery above. A large skylight allows views from the study desk over the west London skyline. The main living space opens up to the west-facing terrace, extending the living space for dining in good weather.
